Highly Capable Program

Referrals for testing for participation in Pomeroy School District’s Highly Capable Program are currently being accepted. Anyone may refer a student including parents, teachers, other students, and members of the community. Referral forms are available at the high school and elementary office, or can be found on our district website.

Students qualify for the program using various assessment data. This data includes a cognitive test called the CogAT7 assessment, classroom based assessments, observations of the classroom teacher and the state assessment, called the Smarter Balance Assessment.

Highly Capable Services are designed to address the needs of highly capable students in grades K-12. The highly capable program is designed differently for students in grades K-6 compared to students in grades 7-12. In the elementary, students are served using a pull-out model once a week, as well as given additional expectations and challenges in their regular classroom. In the Jr./Sr. high students are served through honors and AP classes. If you have questions about the program, please contact Rachel Gwinn or Carrie Kimble at (509) 843-1651.

Referrals must be returned to either building by October 31st.
